Nassau Bay

Right across from the Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center on Farm Road 528 is the community of Nassau Bay, Texas. The town is located right on Nassau Lake in the southeastern part of Harris County.

Construction on the community was started by the Ernest W. Roe Company in 1962. This company was formerly with the historic Spirit of 1776 Ranch that was owned by Col. Raymond Pearson. The entire community is located on 570 acres and was designed by Thompson McCleary from the architectural firm of Caudill, Rowlett and Scott.

Nearby communities include Clear Lake, Carlton Bayou and Swan Lagoon. The first stores and businesses in Nassau Bay were built by the Nassau Bay Development Associates that represents six businessmen from Houston. This company oversaw the construction of fifteen office buildings, several parks, marinas, a private club, hospital, bank, a shopping center, 1000 homes and 400 apartments.

The first families began arriving in Nassau Bay in 1964 and the town was incorporated by 1970. The population grew quickly, from around 400 initial residents to 6,200 residents by 1974. The current estimate shows that around 4,506 residents call Nassau Bay home.

Unlike many residential communities, the zoning laws of Nassau Bay have not prohibited the growth of businesses. This makes Nassau Bay one of the most convenient communities in the area. You’ll have easy access to a bank or a hospital, as well as many different businesses.

If you enjoy boating, the numerous marinas in the area have much to offer. Fishing is a popular pastime with many residents, as are quiet walks along the marina or through the parks that are beautifully landscaped.

The Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center employs many people in the area, but the majority of the residents from Nassau Bay commute to nearby Houston. The expansion of Houston during the 1980’s led many people to search for quieter communities to raise their families and Nassau Bay has much to offer.

If you enjoy living in an apartment in a quiet community, that is still just minutes from Houston, Nassau Bay has many different choices. You’ll be able to enjoy the amenities of the community, while still being minutes away from your job and some great attractions in Houston.

Many planned communities lack character, or a feeling of real closeness among the residents, but Nassau Bay is an exception. It is located in a beautiful part of Texas and has much to offer its residents.
