This city is located on the banks of Clear Creek and Magnolia Bayou, on State Highway 3 and US Highway 75. League City is equidistant to Houston and Galveston, making it a convenient place to find a new apartment. You'll literally be right in the center of some of the best areas of Texas.

George W. Butler was the town's first settler and he arrived in 1873. A brickyard was the first business to open and more continued to pour in. At first, the town was named after its first resident, but this changed when J.C. League purchased the land the town was on from a man named Muldoon.

The original site for the town was located on the line of the Galveston, Houston and Henderson railroad, further assuring the town of its future. League also donated land for the first school in the area that was called the Little Green School. As the railroad finished their station at League City, more people began to settle in the area. A saloon went up and an in known as Straggler's Hall opened for business.

League City residents were generally ranchers, but eventually this trended more into farming as people took advantage of the rich Texas soil .In 1896, the post office was built and the area continued to grow. The International-Great Northern, the Missouri, Kansas and Texas Railroad and Galveston-Houston Electric railroad joined the first railroad in coming through the town.

In 1900, the massive hurricane that swept through Galveston destroyed the bridge over Clear Creek, but the damage was quickly repaired and business continued as usual. The population remained steady for the next few years, until 1943 when the Humble Oil company opened a tank farm and several railroad shops were opened.

Currently, there are approximately 19,000 residents in League City and several hundred businesses. The town has grown so much from its original boundaries that land was annexed up to Friendswood, TX. The majority of the residents in League City commute to other locations, such as the nearby Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center and the Humble Pipeline as well as businesses in nearby Houston and Galveston.

There are many different activities in League City and the surrounding areas that will keep you occupied. The central location means that you're just minutes from the hustle and bustle of Houston, with professional sporting events, horse racing, shopping and other activities and minutes away from Galveston and plenty of fishing and water sports opportunities.

League City is a peaceful community that is sure to provide you with the environment you're looking for in a town with the ability to quickly travel to larger areas.
