The town of Freeport, TX is located in the northeastern section of Hale County. The town of Plainview is located just two miles to the north, and affords even more opportunities for fun. If you enjoy a quiet environment, Freeport will suit your needs quite nicely.

The beginning of the town is marked with the opening of a post office in 1909. Clarence C. Smith was the first postmaster in Freeport. This post office was built to provide mail service to Central Plains College and Conservatory of Music. After the school was renamed to Seth Ward College, Freeport lost its post office to Plainview and has since declined in stature somewhat.

Although maps since 1980 have neglected to show Freeport, there are still some folks hanging on in the area. There is currently a Seth Ward subdivision in Plainview that stretches to where Freeport first began. This subdivision is situated to the northwest of Farm Road 400.

Freeport may be a small town, but there are big attractions to be found. If you enjoy water attractions, the Deep Sea Port located nearby promises to hold much excitement. You'll be able to fish, boat and more, just minutes from your apartment.
