Angleton

Angleton's superior location makes it a very desirable place to find an apartment. If you prefer to live outside of Houston, Angleton is located on State Highways 288 and 35/227. This location affords many the opportunity to rent an apartment in a historic location and still be within minutes of all that Houston has to offer.

Angleton was founded in 1890 by Lewis R. Bryan, Sr and Faustino Kiber. Its original location was in approximately the center of Brazoria County and was named for the wife of the Velasco Terminal Railway's general manager. The town founders worked closely with the railroad, deeding them one-half interest of the town in order to ensure that the rail would be placed in the town, to further stabilize its future.

The town was chosen as the county seat of Brazoria in 1896, following a political row that sparked the populace. Legend has it that county documents were transported in secret, during the middle of the night to the new county courthouse to prevent them from being destroyed by angry citizens. Another battle broke out to move the county seat in 1913, but the measure failed.

Angleton was incorporated in 1912 and the first officials of the city were elected. After this point, more conveniences moved into Angleton, including electric services. The town continued to grow after this point and is still thriving today. The town began as an agricultural community and these roots are still visible today. However, the balance has shifted more towards industrial business, with many large oil, chemical and petrochemical businesses entering the area, providing much needed jobs for the residents.

The annual Brazoria County fair, which is the largest in the state of Texas is held on 120 acres that are located south of the city. Each year, you'll be able to take advantage of one of the best fairs, featuring livestock, carnival attractions and much more.

There are many attractions in Angleton for families and single people. The annual Heritage Banquet is held as a celebration of the town's history and in anticipation of a continued future. Each winter, you'll be able to take the Tour of Homes, which features some of the most historic homes in the area.

Golfers will enjoy the numerous golf courses that are in operation in Angleton. The annual Chamber Golf Tournament is held at Columbia Lakes Country Club, one of several in the area. The mild winters make Angleton a great haven for anyone who enjoys golfing all year round.

There are numerous schools and churches located in Angleton, with many different community activities that take place regularly. Many of the original clubs, such as the Angleton Embroidery Club that was founded in 1923 are still active today. If you are looking for an apartment in a community that cares, Angleton should be first on your list.
